Onion Skin Tea: Benefits


The health benefits of onion skin, and a recipe to use this at home. 

1. When we eat onions, we often peel them and throw away the skin. This is a mistake for the skin contains many health benefits.

2. The outer layer of skin contains a very high amount of anti-oxidants. These promote great health in the body overall, and protect you from diseases.

3. They boost your body’s natural ability to heal itself, and can even protect you from cancer.

4. The skin also contains soluble fibre, and flavonoids which promotes elasticity in your skin. This keeps you looking younger for longer, and helps to clear up acne.

5. Recipe: Simply peel your onion skins and place them in a jar. Fill this with cool spring water and allow these to soak in the refrigerator for at least 12 hours. The nutrients will seep into the water. Strain this and add a little honey. Drink before you go to bed for a health boost. 

6. This is a great way of getting a little more out of your onions, rather than wasting the skin.
